How to choose a good hospital?

Well, visiting a hospital is seldom and most of the times it is pre – planned but we do not actually have many choices in the case of emergency or some critical issues. However during such emergency situations one should keep his/her mind cool and plan of which hospital or medical center to choose as it is more important to choose a hospital wisely than to choose a job or any other thing because as they say “life is more precious than anything else”.

So, it is very important to take decision wisely in such cases, with dangers lurking in the form of hospital acquired infections, unhygienic conditions, increases in medical errors taking place in hospitals, too high cost of treatments, a smart patient will do what he/she can to choose the best hospital.

It is difficult to make a quick choice of a hospital/medical center in case of emergency because of lack of time and concentration of mind which is focused at the question “How to save the life of patient?” However, still there are some of the important points that we should keep in mind while choosing a hospital
  1. Experience of the doctors: What is the experience of the doctors, what are their specialization and their track record because it matters a lot?

  2. Reputation of the Hospital: What is the general feedback of the people around you about the hospital and its services?

  3. Patients Feedback and Experiences: What are the patients that have taken the services of the hospital and how many (ratio) of them are satisfied with the treatment they got. To find the reviews and experiences of patients, you can browse a medical reviews website on the internet. Reading genuine reviews from the people/patients can be one of the key information to influence your decision. Also, beware of the fake reviews/feedback.

  4. Hospital’s Environment:
    • Does the hospital looks clean and smells well?
    • Does the hospitals staff look friendly and relaxed?
  5. These questions will help you identify the work environment on the hospital and will lead to a better patient experience and health outcomes.

  6. Asking for Internal Data: You can ask a few questions from the hospital of the doctor itself like:
    • How many procedures did you performed last year?
    • What was the success rate?
If you got the answer to these questions, you will be going right, but if the hospital/doctor is not responding or hesitating in sharing such information, you should not go there.
  7. Multi Specialty or Super Specialty: It is more your choice rather than comparing the hospitals. If you are looking for a hospital for any critical treatment procedure such as cancer, a super specialty hospital should be preferred else a multi specialty hospital can also be a good choice.

Now, you must be wondering, from where will you get the above information? You can ask people around you, your relatives, friends & family. The major and easiest source for getting all this information is browsing trusted health care websites on internet where you will find the reviews and ratings of health care facilities whether it is a hospital, doctor, clinic, diagnostic center or a pharmacy along with their complete profile & description.

Be healthy…
